Frequently Asked Questions

Is the image converter free?

Yes. It is free and needs no signup.

Are my images uploaded to a server?

No. The conversion runs inside your browser, so your pictures never leave your device.

Does converting lose quality?

PNG output is lossless. JPG and WebP are lossy, so a very small amount of detail is lost. Use a quality of 90% or more to keep it hard to notice.

What happens to transparent areas when I save as JPG?

JPG does not support transparency, so transparent areas are filled with the background colour you choose. It is white by default.

Can it convert an animated GIF?

It converts the first frame only. The result is a still picture.

Why can I not save as WebP in my browser?

A few older browsers cannot create WebP files. The tool shows a message in that case. Choose JPG or PNG instead.
