Browser support and privacy
Speech to text uses the speech recognition built into your browser. It works in Google Chrome, Microsoft Edge and Safari, and needs a microphone and a secure (https) page. Firefox does not support it yet. In Chrome and Edge your audio is processed by the browser vendor’s speech service, so it is sent over the internet for recognition. We do not receive or store your audio or your text.
Frequently Asked Questions
Why does the microphone not start?
Check that you allowed microphone access in the address bar, that no other app is using the microphone, and that you are using Chrome, Edge or Safari.
Which languages are supported?
The list in the tool covers 22 languages and accents. The browser decides the final accuracy for each one.
How can I add punctuation?
Most browsers add little punctuation automatically. You can say the punctuation in some languages, or add it by hand in the box.
Does it work on my phone?
Yes, in Chrome on Android and Safari on iPhone, as long as you allow microphone access.
Is my voice recorded or stored?
We do not record or store your voice. Recognition is handled by your browser’s speech service.
