How to use the Mobile Friendly Test
- Type the full page address, for example https://example.com.
- Click Test Mobile Friendliness. We open the page as a mobile phone.
- Check the score and read the list. Red and orange items come first.
- Fix the problems in your theme or code.
- For a full visual test, click the Google PageSpeed link under the results.
Features
- Opens your page as an iPhone, not as a desktop.
- Checks viewport meta tag, pinch zoom, very wide elements and very small text.
- Finds old plugin content (Flash and Java) that phones cannot run.
- Checks page size, server speed, HTTPS and separate mobile addresses.
- Score out of 100 with plain fixes. Copy the report. Free, no signup.
Why mobile friendly matters
- Google uses the mobile version of your page for indexing and ranking (mobile-first indexing).
- More than half of web visits come from phones.
- Pages that are hard to use on a phone lose visitors quickly.
Frequently Asked Questions
Google closed its Mobile-Friendly Test. Is this a replacement?
Google retired its own tool in 2023. This tool checks the main mobile signals in your HTML. For a full lab test with scores, use our Page Speed Test, which uses Lighthouse.
What is the viewport meta tag?
It tells phones how wide the page should be. Without it, phones show a tiny zoomed-out desktop page.
Does the tool take a screenshot?
No. It reads the page code. It cannot see how the page looks after CSS files are applied.
Why does the tool say good, but my page looks bad on my phone?
Layout issues inside CSS files cannot be seen by a code check. Use Chrome device mode or the Google link for a visual test.
Should I use a separate mobile site?
No. One responsive site that adapts to every screen is easier to manage and is what Google recommends.
Is the test free?
Yes. It is free with no signup.
