What the numbers mean
- Download: how fast data arrives on your device. It matters for streaming and browsing.
- Upload: how fast you send data. It matters for video calls and uploads.
- Ping: the delay of a round trip, in milliseconds. Lower is better. Under 50 ms is great.
- Jitter: how much the ping changes. Lower is smoother for calls and games.
- Mbps means megabits per second. 8 megabits equal 1 megabyte, so 40 Mbps is about 5 MB per second.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is this the official PTCL speed test?
No. It is an independent speed test that works with PTCL and every other provider. It measures the connection between your device and the nearest Cloudflare server.
Why is my speed lower than my package?
Wi-Fi, distance from the router, other devices, old cables, busy times of the day and your device all lower the speed. Test with a cable for the most accurate result. Providers also sell speed as “up to”.
How much data does the test use?
About 50 to 150 MB, depending on how fast your connection is. Be careful on a limited mobile data plan.
Why do different speed tests show different results?
They use different servers and methods. For the best comparison, use the same test at the same time of day.
Does a VPN change the result?
Yes. A VPN adds distance and usually lowers speed. Turn it off for a true test.
Why did the test fail?
An ad blocker, firewall or VPN may block the test server. Turn them off and try again.
